Fans of the After series can look forward to a new romantic book adaptation. Prime Video has unveiled the first snapshots of The Last Sunrisebased on the novel of the same name by bestseller Anna Todd. With a sunny setting in Mallorca, a touching love story and Eva Longoria in the leading role, the film seems to have everything it takes to become a summer hit.
Chronically ill
The Last Sunrise tells the story of Ry, an American student with a chronic illness who spends a summer in Mallorca with her mother. During these days she meets Julián with whom she quickly falls in love. As their romance blossoms, they are confronted with Ry’s health and family secrets that challenge their future. Maia Reficco, known for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (2022–2024) will be seen as Ry. Longoria will be seen as Ry’s mother. The role of Julián is played by Fernando Lindez.
Beautiful Mallorca
According to the cast and makers it is The Last Sunrise much more than a romantic summer film. Longoria calls the story an ode to love, self-discovery and living in the moment, while protagonist Lindez was especially touched by the humanity of the characters and their mutual relationships. Reficco describes the filming as a dream project and looks forward to showing viewers not only Ry’s moving story, but also the beautiful Mallorca. Director Carlson Young hopes that viewers will be carried away by a heartfelt love story that ultimately asks one important question: what are we actually living for?
