Donald Trump threatened on Friday to impose 100% customs duties on countries that implement taxation on digital services, even if it means canceling existing trade agreements.
“Many European countries are discussing the imminent implementation of a digital services tax against American companies. (…) Any country that imposed such a tax would have the immediate response of a 100% customs duty on all goods sent to the United States. This customs duty will cancel the trade agreements concluded with the country” in question, wrote the American president on his Truth Social network.
This new burst of pressure comes the day after the formal green light given by the countries of the European Union to a trade agreement negotiated last year with the United States, providing for a 15% cap on taxes levied on European imports.
