After the satirical approach The Drama (2026), Robert Pattinson will soon be seen in yet another film that stirs the underbelly of the United States. Primetime (2026) is also from the popular indie house A24 and shows how a television journalist scores a ratings success with a show about child molesters.
In the act
The film is set around the year 2000, when the internet was not yet saturated with disturbing stories of child abuse and images of child molesters in action. In this context, journalist and television host Chris Hansen saw his opportunity to alarm and amaze the public with a television show on this subject. To Catch a Predator rose between 2004 and 2007 NBC and used hidden cameras to catch (online) child molesters, and then also be there when these perpetrators were arrested.
Tone set
Below the newly revealed teaser of Primetime sounds the ominous voice of Pattinson, who has crawled into Hansen’s shoes. Images from hidden cameras, split screens and misty color contrasts set the tone for what is clearly a rather dark film:
Autumn
Primetime is directed by Lance Oppenheim, who is known for the remarkable HBO docuseries Ren Faire (2024). In addition to Pattinson, Merritt Wever, Superman actor Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine also star. The film is expected in the US this fall. A Dutch release date has not yet been confirmed.

In 2006, Chris Hansen, the host of the television program ‘To Catch a Predator’, decided to write broadcasting history.
