In a future where humans and aliens have to make it together, we will follow Ray Gunn, the title character of a promising new animated film on Netflix, at the end of this year. Today the streaming service announces that we don’t have to wait until 2027 to give the grandiose story a chance.
Acclaimed director
Film lovers young and old know acclaimed animated films such as The Incredibles (2004) (including sequel fourteen years later) and Ratatouille (2007), and both audience favorites were conceived and made by the same director with Brad Bird.Ray Gunn will only be Bird’s first animated film since The Incredibles 2 (2018), and that may say something: the director says he has wanted to make this film for thirty years.

Megacity
The setting for the story is the megacity Metropia (we are thinking of Metropolis (1927) in Megalopolis (2024)), in which Ray Gunn is the only active private detective and humans and aliens therefore live together. Fortunately, Gunn is not without work, because he soon finds himself in over his head in a murder case.
Watch on Netflix • The film follows Raymund Gunn, the last human private investigator, in a futuristic world where both humans and aliens live.
A tip of the veil
Bird was interviewed about his passion project at the Annecy Animation Festival, taking place this week in France. Viewers also got to see a clip of the film; we’ll have to wait a little longer for that. However, a number of stills from the adventure are already available. The main voice roles are voiced by Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and singer-actor Tom Waits.
