Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke’s adventure as a CIA spy in the Cold War ends after just one season. Clarke starred alongside Haley Lu Richardson (The White Lotus). PONIES (2026), but Peacock has decided to put an end to a possible sequel.
Things have changed
The ‘ponies’ from the title are ‘persons of no interest’; secret people who have dedicated their lives to gathering intelligence and seeing through intrigues. In season 1 we were introduced to Beatrice Grant (Clarke) and Twila Hasbeck (Richardson), who first work as secretaries at the embassy but change course after the death of their husbands. In their new role as secret agents, the two uncover a major political conspiracy.
Cliffhanger
The first season of Ponies largely pleased both critics and viewers, and it therefore appears that the decision to end the series was made purely on the basis of streaming figures. At the time of its release, series creators David Iserson and Susanna Fogel (Cat Person) were still talking about their ideas for a possible sequel, and anyone who watches the series will also notice that not all plot lines have been neatly wrapped up.
On Instagram, Iserson tries to handle the news of the cancellation well. “I still believe that it is worth it to bring a series like this, which does not make it easy in an industry like this, to the public,” he writes. “I hope we see Bea and Twila again somewhere somehow.”
