‘The Leopard’ via Netflix
Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa’s novel The Leopard was published in 1958 and subsequently received several adaptations. One of these is Netflix’s Il Gattopardo (2025). The Italian costume drama was immediately popular with viewers after its release.

Sicily, 1860. Amid the stormy turmoil of the Risorgimento, the Prince of Salina tries to protect his family and possessions. He looks askance at the idealism of youth; so his cousin Tancredi joins the rebels. At the same time, he has to deal with types like Sedara, a down-and-out man who flatters the emerging mafia and uses his beautiful daughter Angelica purely as political currency.
At the prince’s side is his favorite daughter, Concetta. She shares his sharp intelligence and view of the future, but her happiness will ultimately be sacrificed to save power and the noble family name.
