
The Vatican has once again refused the German bishops to allow, even exceptionally, lay people to preach in place of the homily reserved for priests during the celebration of Mass. In a letter dated June 17 and addressed to the president of the German Bishops’ Conference (DBK), Mgr. Heiner Wilmer, newly at the head of the diocese of Münster, the dicastery for divine worship indicates that it cannot grant the “indult” requested by the German bishops on March 30. In the Church, an indult is an exceptional authorization granted by Rome to deviate from a rule.
