Gaya Jiji is a Syrian director trained in France, where she took refuge at the start of the war in her country. In her first film, My Favorite Fabric, presented in 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, she painted the portrait of a young Syrian woman torn between her desire for freedom and the hope of leaving her country via an arranged marriage, while the beginnings of the revolution were brewing in Damascus. The Stranger, his second film, is in some ways an extension of it.
