
Martin Donlefack has not forgotten the mixed feeling, this joy enveloped in sadness which accompanied his first visit to the Musée du Quai-Branly. It was June 2022, after a long journey from his town of Dschang, in western Cameroon. “I told myself that I was finally in contact with my roots, an opportunity that many do not have back home,” remembers this historian of civilizations. But I also felt regret at these objects displayed like trophies when, in their community of origin, their role and their value are quite different. For me, they were like deportees. »
