Older viewers who grew up with the adventures of Pippi Longstocking will soon have the opportunity to present their children (or themselves, of course) with an animated version. The major French film studio StudioCanal is one of the parties behind a 3D CGI adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s beloved stories.
Touching company
The original Swedish-German Pippi television series and four related films date from 1969 and 1970, making it more than fifty years since the striking girl with her freckles, monkey and gold coins arrived in a small town. Fans remember countless adorable moments with Mr. Nilsson and of course her new friends Tommy and Annika.
‘Paddington’-makers
The animated one Pippi Longstockingseries is co-produced by Heyday Films, which is working on the Paddington franchise with StudioCanal. According to Variety 52 episodes of 11 minutes each will be made. Production will start in October, and an animated film that could accompany the series’ story is reportedly already being considered. Sara Daddy (Olga and Paul (2022– )) will write down the scenarios.
Rights holder
The animated series is supported by The Astrid Lingren Company, the company that looks after the estate of the Swedish children’s book author and manages her rights. Lindgren died in 2002 at the age of 94.
