
In the summer of 2027, the brothers of the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem will leave the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey after twenty-five years of presence. Their departure, jointly made official on Monday June 15, 2026 by the diocese of Coutances, is probably the result of the gradual disappearance of their workforce on one of the most touristy Catholic sites in France. “It is a decision of the brothers,” assures the Manche Church to Christian Family. In fact, while there were still four of these consecrated people in 2021 – when they celebrated their 20th anniversary of their presence in the sanctuary – there are, in 2026, only two monks remaining. In all, six sisters, including one studying in Rome, and two brothers still live on Mount.
