
Dormition Cathedral of the kyiv Caves Lavra on fire
One of the cathedrals of the famous Orthodox complex of the kyiv Cave Lavra, that of the Dormition, is on fire after a Russian attack, the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, announced on Monday June 15.
“A fire broke out on the perimeter of the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The roof of the Dormition Cathedral is on fire,” he wrote on Telegram, at a time when several major Ukrainian cities, including kyiv, were under attack.
Russian strikes on kyiv and Kharkiv kill nine people
The wave of Russian strikes that occurred overnight in Ukraine left at least nine dead, four in kyiv and five in Kharkiv, authorities announced, with several large cities having been bombed.
“Unfortunately, the number of deaths rises to four,” wrote on Telegram the head of the kyiv military administration, Timur Tkatchenko, after having communicated an initial figure of two. A few hours earlier, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko reported that “five rescuers from the state emergency services (had) been killed while fighting fires” in Kharkiv (north-east).
Zelensky discussed war with Trump while calling him on his birthday
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the ongoing war between kyiv and Moscow with Donald Trump on Sunday in a call to mark the American leader’s 80th birthday, according to the Ukrainian presidency.
“The conversation was rather rich (…), ranging from birthday wishes to diplomacy, war and peace,” Dmytro Lytvyn, adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, told the press, specifying that the call had lasted between 30 and 35 minutes. He said he would raise the subject of war with Russia and peace negotiations with Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Evian, France, on Monday.
