What is the Salamanca school and what is the context in which its thought emerged?
The School of Salamanca designates a community of thought of legal theologians, mainly Dominican and then Jesuit. They are gathered mainly around Francisco de Vitoria (1483-1546) in the University of Salamanca, in the 16th century, during the “Spanish Golden Age” but the precise name of “School of Salamanca” only appears in the 20th century under the pen of economists like Joseph Schumpeter.
