Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke were a real hit on Prime Video with The Girlfriend (2025). The quirky drama series was released last year and immediately attracted a lot of attention. A sequel was not actually possible, but Deadline now reports that Prime Video is working on a follow-up: The Boyfriend.
Millions of viewers
Met The Girlfriend Prime Video managed to score extremely well. The title starring Olivia Cooke and Robin Wright was released on the streaming service last year and was presented as a miniseries. So there was certainly no question of a second season. But because The Girlfriend was so well received by viewers and critics and also attracted more than 25 million viewers, Prime Video is now working on a sequel.
The Boyfriend
That sequel is called The BoyfriendDeadline reports in an exclusive report. The entertainment website says that this sequel is a completely standalone story, including new characters and themes surrounding masculinity. Prime Video has not yet commented, but sources report that the screenplay is being worked on. However, a writer is not yet attached to this project.
