The Minister of Sports Marina Ferrari announced on Wednesday June 10 the establishment of a “September Move” operation this year to promote physical and sporting activity, with the objective of establishing “a reflex month, like the month without tobacco for example”.
Hearing at the Assembly by the Committee on Culture, Education, Communication and Sport, Ms Ferrari recalled that “95% of adults today have health fragility linked either to an insufficient level of physical activity or to excessive sedentary time”.
Children have “lost 40% of their cardiovascular capacity in the space of 25 years. The physical tests carried out at the entrance to the sixth form revealed results which are worrying,” she added. Marina Ferrari recalled that the objective of the new national strategy “Sport-Health 2025-2030”, presented last September, was to “concretely implement the measures” of an “ambitious” roadmap.
“As such, “September Move” will be held every year in September, as its name indicates, from this year, with the start of the demonstrations on September 3,” she announced. Marina Ferrari indicated that “this operation is part of the legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and also in the perspective of the Games in the French Alps in 2030. The idea is to create a reflex month, like the tobacco-free month for example (in November, Editor’s note), to be able to establish the habit of practicing sport”.
The highlight of this new operation should be the Sports Festival, the first edition of which on September 14, 2025 brought together 140,000 people in Paris. Following the great parade of athletes from the Paris Olympic Games which took place on September 14, 2024 on the Champs-Élysées, Emmanuel Macron proposed establishing a Sports Festival every year, on that date, in the image of the Music Festival.
