Catholics in Mozambique are in mourning. Saturday June 6 in the morning the Bishop of Quelimane, Mgr Osório Citora Afonso, was found dead in his home, shot. A member of the missionaries of the Consolata, a religious institute founded in 1901 by the Italian saint Joseph Allamano, he was bishop of Quelimane and secretary of the Episcopal Conference of Mozambique since August 2025, after having been auxiliary bishop of Maputo in 2024. Pope Leo 1.3 million Catholics.
