Met Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) becomes the popular series The Mandalorian (2019–2023) brought to the big screen. However, the epic space western soon found itself in competition with Obsession (2025) in Backrooms (2026). It causes a big dip in the figures The Mandalorian and Grogu.
At the cinema
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu had a very good start. Even before its release, the film was part of the acclaimed series The Mandalorian rave reviews from critics and a gigantic box office success was naturally expected. But the competition is throwing a spanner in the works.
Competitors
The Mandalorian and Grogu has to compete against horror giants Backrooms in Obsession. Initially, not much was expected from the latter, but this idiosyncratic horror film, made by 26-year-old Curry Barker, has now become a true sensation due to the great hype. Also Backrooms attracts many viewers to the cinema. And then the cute Grogu disappears a bit in all this horror violence.
Drop of 69 percent
Los Angeles Times can now report that The Mandalorian and Grogu fell sharply last weekend in the United States. In its second weekend after release, the Star Wars film grossed a paltry $25 million. That’s a drop of 69 percent! A big disappointment for the film with Pedro Pascal…
Third place
Backrooms is currently going the fastest with an opening weekend in which 81 million dollars were raised. Obsession is hot on its competitor’s heels and brought in $26 million last weekend. That brings The Mandalorian and Grogu in third place on this list.
Bounty hunter and apprentice
The Evil Empire has fallen, but scattered Imperial leaders still fight across the galaxy. As the young New Republic tries to protect what the Rebels have built, they turn to legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu for help.
