More than 23,000 people have been evacuated in total in Landes due to a fire, prefect Gilles Clavreul announced Friday morning, as the flames continue to progress.
“In total, we are now at more than 23,000 people evacuated,” said the prefect on ICI Gascogne radio, specifying that “the fire continued to progress” during the night.
6:17 a.m. – The Cap Ferret peninsula evacuated
The prefecture of Nouvelle-Aquitaine ordered early Friday the evacuation of several villages on the Cap Ferret peninsula, which is very touristy, in the face of fires ravaging the area.
“The fire crossed the support line set up by the firefighters around 1 a.m.,” the prefecture said in a press release, adding that “the evolution of the disaster requires the immediate evacuation of the first villages on the Cap Ferret peninsula.”
