Summer series: these nuns who carry the world
Sunday July 5, 8 a.m. While America recovers from the festivities celebrated on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Independence Day organized the day before, a handful of volunteers are active under a tent, in a forgotten corner of New Jersey. Among them, Sister Susan Francois, a 54-year-old nun who does not wear the habit, but an imposing cross around her neck. With the small group, she takes out seats and boxes of clothes to welcome the families who have come to visit the detainees of Delaney Hall, the immigration detention center which stands there, a fortress surrounded by barbed wire and concrete blocks.
