The number of job seekers without any activity (category A) registered with France Travail increased by 0.8% in the second quarter of 2026 to 3,323,000, after a drop of 1.2% three months earlier, the Ministry of Labor and France Travail reported on Tuesday July 28.
Corrected for the automatic registration of RSA (active solidarity income) recipients and the non-delisting of certain unemployed people since June 2025, the number of category A job seekers nevertheless fell by 0.2% in the second quarter, after a drop of 2.4% noted in the first quarter over the same scope.
Including unemployed people in categories B and C, who hold part-time jobs but would like to work more, the increase is 1.3% in the second quarter, to 5.801 million. By excluding the new public registered with France Travail since January 2025 and the unemployed sanctioned but who are no longer deregistered, the increase is reduced to 0.4%.
Over one year, the number of job seekers increased in unadjusted data by 3.1% for category A and 3.2% for all categories A, B and C. The increase is more marked for young people, whether for category A alone (5.9%) or for all categories A, B and C (6.3%).
The number of new registrants at France Travail still waiting for their orientation interview and provisionally placed in category G decreased over the quarter, to 447,700, while the number of those oriented towards a social path increased to 540,600.
