Spanish firefighters are facing a new front of fires on Sunday on the outskirts of Valencia, a coastal city from which at least 15,000 residents have been evacuated.

In this area of the east coast of the country, the authorities admit they are struggling to contain the flames.
“The fire exceeds our extinguishing capabilities, its perimeter is approximately 21 kilometers. It is still difficult to determine the number of hectares burned,” Juanfran Perez Llorca, president of the Valencia region, told the press on Saturday evening, adding: “we have evacuated around 15,000 people.”
The Spanish authorities ordered on Saturday evening the evacuation of eight new municipalities around Toledo, threatened by the flames west of Madrid, while the Minister of the Interior spoke of a “complex situation”.
“Due to the forest fire, an alert was issued to evacuate the Toledan municipalities of Buenaventura, Navamorcuende, Real de San Vicente, Hinojosa de San Vicente, Castillo de Bayuela, Garciotum, Nuñogómez and Pelahustán,” the Interior Ministry said on X.
Earlier in the day, the minister announced the evacuation of 60,000 people in the Madrid region.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed that firefighters were mobilizing all their efforts to protect lives. A victim was reported on Saturday near Valence, according to Manises town hall.
