Khaled sees the end of the road. Finally. Five years after meeting Sama, he should soon be able to marry her. “Next year, God willing, or the following year at the latest,” he assures. He will then be 27 or 28 years old, an acceptable age to settle down. At least in his eyes… “For my mother’s generation, it’s late,” he says. She does not realize that, in the race for young Egyptians to marry, her boy is ahead of his family: in the most populous Arab country, the average age of union continues to increase, and now exceeds 30 years for men.
