This is one of Emmanuel Macron’s flagship measures to initiate the “demographic rearmament” of France. Entered into force on July 1, birth leave is in addition to maternity and paternity leave. Thus, each parent of a child, born or adopted from January 1, 2026, can spend one or two additional months with their little one. The first month is compensated at 70% of net salary by the Primary Health Insurance Fund, the second at 60%.
