In this turbulent world, the ambitious and wealthy trader Stanisław Wokulski tries to navigate his way through a maze of social tensions and deep personal setbacks.

His carefully built empire only really comes under pressure due to a blinding passion for the aristocratic Izabela Łęcka. Wokulski’s obsession with Izabela drives him to increasingly extreme choices, as a result of which he is in danger of permanently losing control of his life.
