This Friday, June 12, Paray-le-Monial is expecting a dense crowd for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The Burgundian sanctuary is celebrating “Jerusalem, first city of the heart of Jesus”, the theme of the celebrations which will be marked this year by the presence of Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. Its presence, alongside the Work of the Orient, which supports Christians in the Middle East affected by the war, gives a particular resonance to the event. With 80,000 visitors and pilgrims per year, the city, where Saint Marguerite-Marie Alacoque said she saw Christ, who revealed his Sacred Heart between 1673 and 1675, has experienced increasing attendance for more than a year.
