Good news for action and humor lovers: Sony is working on it 24 Jump Street, the long-awaited third installment in the popular comedy film series. Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and rapper Ice Cube are said to be currently in talks to reprise their well-known roles.
Undercover agents
In 21 Jump Street (2012), Hill and Tatum play officers Schmidt and Jenko, who go undercover at a high school to take down a drug network. Ice Cube played their strict but comical chef, Captain Dickson. The sequel, 22 Jump Street (2014), moved the action to a college campus and became an even bigger success than the first film.
New director at the helm
The new film is directed by Rodney Rothman (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of the first two films, are involved again, as is producer Neal H. Moritz. He announced the news via social media.
A project with a long history
Sony has been looking for a way to continue the franchise for more than ten years. Previous plans for 23 Jump Street never became concrete, despite Channing Tatum’s enthusiasm. He once called the scrapped script “the best script I’ve ever read for a third film”.
Why go straight to 24 Jump Street?
The choice of title 24 Jump Street fits perfectly with the self-aware humor of the series. After all, the films are already a nod to the TV series of the same name 21 Jump Street (1987–1991) met Johnny Depp.

Police officer Tom Hanson (Johnny Depp) is assigned to Captain Jenko’s special team. Together with other young officers Hoffs, Penhall and Loki, he goes undercover at schools to arrest criminal teenagers.
Furthermore, it ended 22 Jump Street with an extended joke during the end credits, in which Schmidt and Jenko are sent on countless new undercover missions: from a cooking school and fire training to a seminar, outer space and even an animated series. Because of the new movie 24 Jump Street Sony continues that recurring joke.
