
Currently a parish priest in Lille, having exercised different responsibilities in the Church, you affirm in your book that you see the temptation of identity among Catholics growing every day. How ?
For around fifteen years, we have felt among a certain number of Christians a need to manifest an identity, in a more visible, more singular way. This phenomenon is undoubtedly linked to the great vagueness in which we find ourselves on all questions of “construction” and “deconstruction” of identity. It also perhaps comes from geopolitical concern, due to population movements, the importance of new religious currents, notably Islam, in our country. All this causes worry in the hearts of a number of people. Hence this feeling among some that it would be good to be able to manifest a Christian identity in a more visible way.
