We necessarily think of the stripper «Parasite» de bong joon-ho Before this Korean “normal family”. A tribe whose perfectly smiling photo, which ironically punctuates the story, hides rivalries, bitterness and dark secrets … “A Normal Family” features two brothers in his fifty years. One is a wealthy lawyer whose (young and lovely) wife devotes himself to gymnastics while a nanny rocks their baby. The other is a surgeon who makes humanitarian aid in Africa and whose woman has won the “Best volunteer Prize”.
The latter collected their mother with him and supports the whims and humiliations of this old woman, who openly proclaims that she prefers her other son and spits – literally – on her daughter -in -law. Sometimes the two brothers will dine in a chic restaurant in Seoul with their respective women, who have no more hooked atom than themselves. When the lawyer of the lawyer and the surgeon’s son finds themselves mixed with a drama, the brothers find themselves faced with a moral dilemma: cover their children or denounce them …
A tone that is both funny and creaky
“A Normal Family” begins on the wheel hats: those of the car of a driver who, for a simple altercation, will reverse and kill a stranger. The film continues without dead time, with a very elegant staging and a tone that is both funny and creaky. In this apparently banal family, the drama will arise until the spectator is freezing, but it does not come from where we expect it …
By the way, this very contemporary thriller addresses the questions of school harassment, social networks and the fascination for violence. Six years after the golden palm of “parasite”, “a normal family” proves that Korean cinema still contains nuggets.
