A fire left three people dead and 34 injured on the night of Saturday to Sunday in a hospital in Hamburg, in northern Germany, according to a provisional assessment of local firefighters.
The fire triggered around midnight in a chamber of the Geriatric Service of the Marienkrankenhaus establishment and threatened to spread on the first floor via the exterior facade, added a spokesperson for firefighters, Lorenz Hartmann.
“Several elderly and reduced mobility had to be evacuated through the corridors,” he said.
In the end, “the firefighters quickly controlled the fire and prevented the flames from spreading to other patients of patients,” said the spokesperson.
For the time being, the reasons for the fire could not be established.
