This 4th barometer, of which The last edition dates from 2021, is of major importance for cyclist associations. “It is a tool to document the advances in a cycle policy in the field. For mayors and road services, it is the means of having a precise overview of things to improve, ”explains Isabelle Paschal, referent to the Collective Vélo Île-de-France, which brings around forty associations.
The record made public in September
For the barometer to be as representative as possible, it is necessary to have a large number of responses. In order to appear in the results, a municipality must collect 50 minimum responses (and 30 for cities of less than 5,000 inhabitants). “In Île-de-France, we are already at 51,600 respondents and 395 municipalities estimated since the launch of the campaign at the end of February. We will exceed 55,000 participants and 312 municipalities in the 2021 edition. But since there have been many new cyclists, who do not know the barometer, and which we invite to give their opinion, ”continues Isabelle Paschal.
Then, after June 2, all the answers will be compiled and analyzed. They will give rise to a final note of 6, ranging from “excellent” (a) to “very unfavorable” (G). The list of this 4th barometer will be made public in September 2025, a few months before the municipal elections of March 2026. This will be an opportunity to measure the gap between the promises made in 2020 and the results obtained.
During the 2021 barometer, in Ile-de-France, it is the city of Versailles in the Yvelines which had received the best note (3.72 out of 6), synonymous with “rather favorable” climate at the bicycle.
