Netflix announced a new series yesterday. The streaming service provides green light for a comedy series about a hopeless family with leading roles for Dan Levy, Taylor Ortega and Laurie Metcalf. The series is led by Levy, known from Sheep’s Creek (2015–2020) A Rachel Sennott.
A chaotic family
Emmy winner Levy will be working on brand new production of which eight episodes will be made in the coming period. The series revolves around a steering brother and sister who are blackmailed to step into the world of organized crime. The brother and sister are played by Taylor and Levy, Metcalf will be shown as their mother.
I am very happy that I can bring this really chaotic family story to life with Netflix. I am proud of the team that we put together, both behind the scenes and for the camera. Taylor Ortega becomes a name to remember and it is my life mission to call Laurie Metcalf ‘Mama’. I look forward to showing this to everyone.
Problems with Levy
The work on this comedy series had a difficult start. Although production should have started some time ago, the process was delayed when Levy decided to terminate the writers’ room even before half of their 20 -week contract period had expired. All writers involved have since been fully paid. According to Levy, the writers were unable to find the right balance between comedy and crime. On the other hand, some writers experienced frustration by Levy’s unpredictable working method and his limited experience as a showrunner, so that a few left on their own initiative.
