Saying goodbye to the Mission: Impossible franchise started with the last film in the series Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025). The film has had a long run -up with a lot of attention for the tough stunts of protagonist Tom Cruise. The fact that no effort has been spared any effort has created towering expectations. The new action film was welcomed yesterday at the Cannes film festival with an applause of 5 minutes, but whether the audience is actually talking about the film is another story.

During the premiere in Cannes, the guests were festively welcomed by a 40-member orchestra that performed the iconic music of the series. Although the applause seems promising afterwards, the success of this newest thriller was slightly less overwhelming than hoped for this newest thriller despite all the stunts and dedication of cruise. It was a long seat and that was clearly noticeable, some guests even left the room early.
Not even a dream
For Cruise itself it was a successful evening. He gratefully nodded the audience while he enjoyed the big applause with director Christopher McQuarrie. McQuarrie took the opportunity to thank the audience and stated that this reaction from the public, the enthusiasm, is exactly what he is doing for. Cruise also thanked those present: “As a child I could not have even dreamed that this would ever happen. I think MCQ has already said everything. I am just very grateful that I have been able to have you entertained for 30 years with this franchise.
