A man was shot Tuesday evening in a disadvantaged district of downtown Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), learned the Parisian from a police source on Wednesday, confirming information from Provence. A second person was injured at the top of the leg and transported to hospital, without his vital prognosis being engaged, according to the same source.
The police were called around 10 p.m. for a shooting at the National Boulevard in the Mai Belle district, in the third arrondissement, one of the most paved sectors in the second city in France.
According to the police source, the authors of the shots were on a scooter. The passenger used a handgun, the caliber of which is not known at this stage. They fled after the facts and the vehicle was found later on the boulevard, without its occupants.
Known to justice
The victim was at a bus stop when he was hit, according to information from local media. She received two bullets at the chest level, specifies the police source.
Despite the rapid intervention of the Marseille firefighters and an SMUR team, the man could not be resuscitated and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. “The victim was known to justice for small offenses but not linked to drug trafficking,” the Marseille prosecutor’s office told AFP.
An investigation into “organized gang assassination”, “assassination attempt” and “criminal association” was opened. The investigations were entrusted to the organized and specialized crime division (DCOS).
