Nottingham Forest Taiwo Awoniyi striker was operated on “in an emergency” for an abdominal injury in a shock against the amount of the goal this Sunday during the Premier League match against Leicester announced his club on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international violently struck the post as he was trying to take over a ball in the 88th minute of the match which concluded on a 2-2 draw. “The club will give new information in due time,” says Nottingham Forest.
Awoniyi, who joined the club football English in June 2022 from the Berlin Union, had only come into play for five minutes when he was injured. After receiving a long treatment on the lawn, he resumed and finished the match. The extent of his injury was not found until Monday by the Nottingham Forest medical team.
The Club can confirm Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent surgery following an abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City.

The club is in a race for a place in the Champions League next season: with this draw against an already relegated training, Forest no longer has its future in C1 in its hands, but is guaranteed to finish in the first seven of the championship and therefore to be European in 2025-26.
