It is a hamlet worthy of a fairy tale, with houses with old -fashioned thatch roofs, bordering small flowery, quiet and shaded pedestrian streets. A fairy tale for visitors, but a nightmare for residents who live in and around the famous village.
For a few years and especially the end of the pandemichundreds of tourists come to visit this small village daily. If some arrive on foot, many others travel by car, motorhome, or even bus, breaking by tens with cameras and picnics.
The tranquility of the inhabitants of the few chaumières still occupied, and contemporary houses located along the road which leads to the village and to the famous car park on which all the vehicles are parked, is only a distant memory. And they can’t.
“Some visitors sting from the thatch of the roofs,” protests a representative of the Kerascoët residents collective, who lives all year round in the village. “It may seem benign, a thatched fetu. But imagine 5,000 people do the same! They enter the private gardens, make us admonitions on the renovations made to the cottages, park anywhere, take us in photos without authorization, spy on us … It is not Venice here. »»
Confusion between parking and campsite
A parking lot located a few meters from the village, which is pedestrian, has been arranged by the municipality. But alas, its capacity has become insufficient, given the number of tourists who come to visit the site.
“Between cars, coaches and motorhomes, there is not enough room,” are annoying members of the collective. “Especially on motorhomes, which settle and confuse parking and campsite when we have a real campsite right next to it. Suddenly, people park on both sides of the road, which is small and winding. Not only is it dangerous, but in addition they park in front of our house entrances, blocking us entrance and exit. »»
In addition, the parking gravel causes many dust, especially when tourists do not respect the speed limit of 30 km/h.
Not a crazy mini-puy
The drop of water that overflowed the vase is the initiative of an association, an Emglev, which wanted to revive Kerascoët celebrations in 2026, without consulting the residents beforehand. Holidays that would generate a tourist crowd difficult to contain, or even impossible to manage, on the site.
“We are not an amusement park, a mini-power crazy “Contesses the residents. “When we learned the idea of the association, with many animations and over two days, we immediately contacted the town hall of Nevez. We are not opposed to any animation here. Each year, on the village square, there is an animation of Make way for kids and an equestrian show. But it is on a small scale, on a human scale. »»
The collective was won over the Kerascoët festivals, but all the other impacts of surcourism remain unanswered. “What is expected now is that there are more motorhomes of motorhomes that stay in the parking lot for a long time,” insists one of the members of the collective, which offers a radical solution: “they should be taxed. It would be the desire to stay for several hours, even two days. »»
“For speed, the municipality had installed an educational radar at the village level, which has mysteriously disappeared. Someone may have adopted it ”quips this same local resident.
Overcurrent has used these residents, faced with many incivility for a few years. Their reaction echoes other inhabitants of very tourist sites who can no longer be importance constantly, at any time of the day and the night. But, unlike some of these sites, the inhabitants of Kerascoët refuse to leave. “We live here and hope to live there for a long time,” concludes one of them.
