Netflix is working on a new drama series, Unaccustomed Earthbased on the award -winning and beloved collection of stories by Jhumpa Lahiri. The book is Lahiri’s first work that reaches the top of the New York Times Bestseller list, where it debuted at number 1.

Netflix has eight episodes of Unaccustomed Earth ordered. The series is an Indian-American community, living in Cambridge Massachusetts, central. The books are mainly praised for the unforgettable characters. When the forbidden romance between a loyal wife and her lost childhood love comes to light, this leads to a major scandal. Hidden emotions and secrets are revealed and cause tensions that sow new conflicts and division within the normally so attached and highly related society.

Unaccustomed Earth is made by John Wells who is known for, among other things The Pitt (2025– ) in Shameless (2011–2021). The series is written by Madhuri Shekar, known from 3 Body Problem (2024– ) en nisha ganatra (Freakier Friday (2025)) acts as a director. Nothing has been announced about the cast and release date.
