In a judgment rendered this February 18 and consulted by 20 Minutesthe Marseille administrative court recognized the responsibility of the State in the deadly assault of Yvan Colonna in prison and ordered the administration to pay 75,000 euros to its family. The Corsican separatist had been violently attacked by a fellow prison in Arles prison on March 2, 2022, before succumbing to his injuries on March 21.
The judges notably noted several serious shortcomings in the monitoring of prisoners, as well as the lack of placement of the aggressor in the evaluation district of radicalization. On the other hand, they considered that the maintenance of Yvan Colonna among the particularly reported detainees and the refusal of his transfer to Borgo were justified.
The court noted that the victim suffered intense physical pain and extreme anxiety in the face of the violence of the attack. In compensation for the damage, the State will therefore have to pay 75,000 euros to his wife and children.
