Steam gamers must be vigilant! Piratefi games are caught in the data of data thieves malware

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Steam gamers are asked to be careful when they have downloaded the piraratefi! This Free-to-Play game secretly spreads the Malware of Vidar Information Thief.

Secuinfra, the Siber Security Team found that this piratefi game was infected with malware able to steal passwords, cookie sessions, to the crypto wallet.

Piratefi itself debuted in Steam from 6 to 12 February, and had been downloaded by 1,500 players before finally being deleted from the store by Valve.

Following this incident, Valve Directly send warnings to all users or gamers who have downloaded the game and have the potential to be affected.

Valve Asks Gamers Reinstalling Windows OS?

In the email sent to the user, Valve warns, the game file has been modified by cyber criminals to spread malware and infect the user device without knowledge.

“If you play a piratefi (3476470) in Steam, there is a possibility that your computer has been infected,” Valve wrote as quoted by BleepingComputer, Monday (2/17/2025).

The company suggested, gamers to immediately reinstall Windows, scan the system with the latest antivirus, and check whether there is suspicious software installed without their knowledge.

The worst, the user might have to reformat HDD/SSD and reinstall the Windows OS on the device.
