As enthusiastic as HBO Max announced a brand new Harry Potter series in 2023, the streaming service has been doing so mysteriously about the casting of the protagonists since. Where the internet is overflowing with the strong rumors, we still did not officially know who will take on the most important roles. The usually reliable Deadline Now finally know how to change that.
Halve deal
In November we announced that HBO The BFG actor Mark Rylance had in mind for the prominent role of Dumbledore, better known to the Dutch readers as Dumbledore. The makers would have already contacted at the time, although a concrete deal was not yet in jugs and jugs.

Emmy-winner
Since then, HBO has most likely had to resist. It remained silent around the name of Rylance, and now has Deadline More exciting news to report around John Lithgow. The 79-year-old actor, who recently had roles in Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) in Conclave (2024)is close to a deal to give Dumbledore a new face. Lithgow already won six Emmy’s in his career and harvested praise for playing Winston Churchill in royaltyserie The Crown (2016–2023).

HBO responds to the news by stating that “series such as these always provide speculation”, and that it will only come up with updates if there is a definitive deal. Earlier Ben Barnes and Paapa Essiedu were on the new one Harry Potter linked.
