In 2017, the new president Emmanuel Macron said that there would be no one on the street in France by the end of the year. More than seven years later, just the city of Paris has in early 2025 3.507 homeless people, according to a census made on the last night of solidarity. An almost stable number compared to the previous year, the city announced on Wednesday.
In 2024, some 3,492 people on the street had been identified in Paris. To these thousands of homeless in Paris, are added 768 people in the 30 municipalities of Grand Paris, specifies the metropolis of Greater Paris, associated with this operation, as well as the National Union of Communal Action Centers Social (UNCCAS).
“Nearly three -quarters in the streets of Paris”
These censuses are carried out during nights of solidarity, an annual statement carried out in Grand Paris and the capital by teams of volunteers who crisscross streets and public spaces.
This eighth edition of the night of solidarity was held on January 23. Of the 3.507 Sans-Abris, “almost three-quarters of the people were met in the streets of Paris and a quarter in other sectors”, including the device of the device, camps, stations and metro stations, or The Bois de Boulogne and Vincennes, the city said in a press release.
14 % of shelters are women
However, this figure does not include the 337 young people “occupying Lyrique gaiety” for several weeks, which, according to the city of Paris, were “not properly in street”.
This year, women represent 14 % of homeless people, compared to 12 % last year, adds the city, pointing out “stronger presences in the 10th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 19th arrondissements and in Paris Center”.
More than half (59 %) of the homeless people met were alone during the census which took place during the eighth edition of the night of solidarity.
