Who are the first free saliva tests for endometriosis?

Since Tuesday, the salivary tests used for the diagnosis of endometriosis, still at the experimental stage, are now reimbursed for certain patients, announced the Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin. The cost of this system is “800 euros per woman” and will be taken in tank by health insurance, she said.

These tests detecting endometriosis by saliva thanks to the analysis and sequencing of the RNA (Endotest) were designed by the Lyonnaise Ziwig biotech. Studies on this test have been considered promising sufficiently by the High Authority for Health (HAS) to justify a large -scale experiment. The HAS had given the green light in October to the management of these tests, via a derogatory device.

25,000 patients concerned

According to the Ministry of Health and Ziwig, some 25,000 patients over the age of 18 will benefit from care in the coming months, an estimate which remains “theoretical” according to the Catherine Vautrin cabinet. The first 2,500 will be included in a clinical study, the results of which (on the impact on global management in particular) will condition a possible generalization of the reimbursement.

“As soon as we have the results concerning these patients, the High Authority for Health will give a final opinion which will make it possible to highlight the merits of the test and, behind, a care for all the women of our country,” Promise Catherine Vautrin on France 2. The Minister had personally committed to the subject as soon as he arrived at the government by announcing early 2024 test reimbursements in 2025.

Endometriosis affects more than 2 million women of childbearing age. Diagnostic wandering around this pathology is enormous: seven years on average are necessary to make a diagnosis. Symptoms have a considerable impact on the quality of life of affected people, recalls the Ministry of Health.
