This is probably the last feature film of the French animation veteran, Jean-François Laguionie, and one of his most personal. The director of Tableau one you Château des Singes Book his childhood memories here through those of his alter ego, the young François who recounts his solitary youth in post-war France and his complicated relationships with his father.
A man steeped in contradictions that dreamed of building the replica of a mythical boat. A beautiful story told to the height of a child that offers a nice counterpoint to the overwhelming Louise a Hiver (2016), delicate evocation of the twilight of the life of a woman and first part of a diptych of which Slocum and moi is the paternal side.

By its use of colors and its naive symbolism, Frida Kahlo is undoubtedly one of the most talking artists for the youngest, despite the painful themes of some of his paintings. Often used in plastic art courses, his work well deserved an animated film for children. Hence the idea of André Kadi and Karine Vézina to tell her childhood in Coyoacán, Mexico. A happy childhood, but also harshly marked by the disease (polio), school harassment and a terrible road accident.
A didactic hair, the film deploys its words a little too wisely, however enamelled with dreamlike sequences of very beautiful, but undoubtedly a little frightening for the most sensitive, evoking the fight of the little Frida against death. The whole film is flooded in the warm colors of the artist’s works and carried by the warm interpretation of Olivia Ruiz, also behind the very beautiful soundtrack with shiny brass.

One night at the zoo *

A pastiche of zombie film, why not? Already successfully tempted in comedy (with the hilarious Shaun of the Deadin particular), the test is even more original in a production intended for young audiences. In what looks like a crossing of Madagascar and Night of the Living Deadzoo animals try to escape the mutant virus which transforms their fellows into foggy zombies with globular eyes …
Animated in 3D with care and force effects of cartoony deformations, the film holds up, was it its artistic direction addicted to fluorescent colors. Even if fans of the genre will feast on critical comments from a film buff on the turn of events, this night at the zoo lacks effective gags to defuse the horrific climate (young sensitive souls abstain!).
Daffy and Porky save the world *

Antiheros friendly and pugnacious, Ben is not dismantled in this film which thwarts many archetypes of comedies for teenagers, without avoiding them all. Full of a spicy fantasy, this initiatory story adapted from an eponymous novel by Mikael Ollivier is never miserable, even if it unrolls a bit predictable. Animation, handcrafted and original, gives a lot of truth to these teenagers in search of understanding their body and well-being.
