Almost a month after the death of the iconic director David Lynch, the cause of his death was finally announced. Yesterday his death certificate was published by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. This deed offers more clarity about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Difficult last days
David Lynch, the director behind classics such as Mulholland Dr. (2001), The Elephant Man (1980) in Twin Peaks (1990–2017)had been struggling with health problems for quite some time. Last year the filmmaker revealed that after a lifetime he had been diagnosed with emphysema, a lung disease that makes breathing difficult by damage to the vesicles. During the recent forest fires in Los Angeles, Lynch was evacuated from his house. According to sources, this would have seriously deteriorated his health. On his death certificate, cardiac arrest is mentioned by chronic obstructive lung disease as a direct cause of his death, with dehydration as an important additional factor.
For years in
In an interview last year, Lynch shared more about the difficult situation in which he was. During the entire COVID-19 Pandemie, the filmmaker remained strictly inside, because the risk of getting sick was too great for his health.
I got emphysema from smoking. I have smelled as long as I can remember and now I am bound by home whether I like it or not. Even a cold would put me in trouble.
