Cyber threats in the form of malware or evil software used by hackers are now more advanced and sophisticated. In a latest development, researchers at Kaspersky found sparkcat malware targeting iOS.
Sparkcat malware is found in suspicious applications on iOS, which is able to read screenshot content on the user’s device.
According to researchers, this malware uses optical character recognition (OCR) to scan screenshots, to get sensitive information.
This sparkcat malware targets the recovery of crypto wallets, which allows attackers to steal bitcoin and other digital assets.
Quoting Gizchina, Thursday (6/2/2025), there are several evil applications that are infected with sparkcat malware. Starting from comecome, wetink, to anygpt.
These three applications contain an evil module that utilizes Google’s OCR ML Kit plug-in to analyze images.
If the screenshots associated with the crypto wallet are detected, the malware sends data to the server controlled by the attacker.
Sparkcat is also said to have been active since March 2024 and is now extending to Android and PC -based attacks, as found on iOS and iPhone in 2023.
