The Mexican communicator and professor Alejandro Gallegos was found dead this Saturday in Villahermosa, Tabasco, according to the organization Article 19.
“ARTICLE 19 received confirmation that journalist and professor Alejandro Gallegos León was found dead,” the organization published on its social networks.
The entity demanded justice for what happened and asked the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Attention of Crimes Committed Against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE), dependent on the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), to take on the case and consider the work Gallegos’ journalistic report as a possible motive for the crime.

Just hours before, the same organization had documented the disappearance of the journalist and academicin Villahermosa, Tabasco.
After the death of the journalist became known, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) andissued a statement in which he stated that an investigation had been initiated “carrying out all the necessary forensic analysis and collection of evidence and interviews, in order to clarify the motive for the disappearance.”
He also detailed that Gallegos’ lifeless body was located at kilometer 5 of the highway that goes to the town C28 of the Municipality of Cárdenas, in Villahermosa.
According to the information in Article 19, Gallegos was a columnist for the newspaper Tabasco Hoy and a university professor.

According to his family, The last communication we had with him was on Friday, around 2:25 p.m. local time. (20:45 GMT).
Likewise, he said that, according to testimonies from the journalist’s colleagues expressed in Article 19, Alejandro specialized in covering educational and political issues, in addition to managing the citizen complaint page La Voz del Pueblo, Noticias Sin Censura.
The murder of Gallegos represents a new blow to press freedom in Mexico, where since 2000 there have been more than 169 murders of journalistsof which two have been registered in the current administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who took office on October 1, 2024.
