If any of your relatives died and they were insured or pensioned by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), You can submit an application for help with funeral expenses.
This request will be the monetary resource equivalent to 60 days of the general minimum wage in force in Mexico City on the date of death.
What documents do I need?
If you are the applicant, you will need:
- Application for granting aid, which will be filled out by IMSS staff and will be delivered for your signature (original).
- Valid official identification (original and copy).
While you will take the following documents from the deceased person:
Invoice or fiscal document that guarantees the payment of funeral services of a deceased IMSS insured or pensioner. that describes any expense such as the coffin, cremation, embalming, transfer service or viewing equipment, burial service fees, in general expenses for funeral or viewing services; or, original document or account of funeral expenses issued by a competent authority.

If the funeral services are provided by the Institute and the application of Aid for Funeral Expenses is requested for the total cost of the service, The Contract for the Provision of Funeral Services issued by the IMSS Velatorio may replace the invoice for funeral expenses.
Certified copy of the Death Certificate, issued by some authority.
In the case of missing persons, by common law, the registration of presumption of death that is made in the Birth Certificate may be accepted and if the date of death is not indicated, The date on which the sentence of the judicial authority that determined the aforementioned presumption of death became enforceable will be taken into consideration.
While, in the case of a death of an insured for Occupational Risk, the following must also be presented:
- “Initial medical attention notice and probable work risk rating ST-7” format.
- It is important to note that the cost is completely free.
To carry out your procedure you must go to the Family Medicine Unit or at the assigned Subdelegation from 08:00 to 15:00, or during the extended hours determined by the Delegation.
