The lights go out in Main Street, the main artery of Disneyland Paris, and – the effect is striking. Silence is essential where the agitation reigned. From perspective, the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle slowly comes to life. The good Cinderella fairy makes her wand work, the blue fairy gives life to Pinocchio, Mary Poppins flies away … We left for twenty minutes of pyrotechnic show.
“Tales of Magic” is the third night show designed for Disneyland park since 2012. Every evening at 9 p.m. (for the moment, the schedule will evolve with sunset time), this sound and light show designed by Tim Lutkin allows you to say goodbye to visitors to the amusement park.
Magic, ok, but especially technology
“Tales of Magic” tells, you will understand, stories of magic. But to give life to all of this, the designers of the show have mainly counted on technology. 60 light projectors have for example been installed to illuminate the castle while 15 ultra-high intensity lasers make it possible to project beams of light as far as the eye can see in the sky (low that evening) of Marne-la-Vallée. Above all, 200 so -called “architectural” LED projectors transform the facade of the castle and the houses of Main Street into a giant canvas for a breathtaking mapping.
Since Main Street, the show is stunning. If the main frame of the show is played on the towers of the castle, the imitation shops Gilded Age – The equivalent of the beautiful American time – of the main artery of the park, come alive. We plunge into the toy trunk of Toy Story. The roses of roses of Beauty and the beast invade the street. We find ourselves in the middle of the village of the Madrigal family of Charm or on the waves with Vaiana, or among the souvenir balls Riley de Vice-versa… “We wanted to create an immersive effect,” explains Tim Lutkin. The show can really be seen from anywhere. Either as close to the castle, to be at the foot of fireworks, water jets and see the mapping. Either in the middle of Main Street to have this immersion effect. We have pushed the technological limits, it is really a revolutionary spectacle where visitors are immersed in the heart of history. »»
Magic is not what you think
To complete the painting, the designer of the show has imagined drone animations that draw patterns on both sides of the castle. The effect is particularly successful during the table devoted to Lion king. Wait, wait … What relationship between the lion king and magic? “We often talk about Disney magic and we wanted to explore this theme which is sometimes a little cliché,” explains Dana Harrel, executive director of Disneyland entertainment. And by plunging back into the films, we understood that magic was not only the fairies. It is also friendship that welds characters like Lilo and Stitch, the love that is born between Wall-E and Eve … it’s very rich magic! »»
As with Disney films, a little cute on paper, this discourse on “the magic of love and friendship” works in full lights and music. “Tales of Magic” is also a lot on a soundtrack, also made very immersive thanks to advanced technology. As twenty rearranged themes and reorchestrated for the occasion, and of music composed exclusively, the spectator feels embarked in history. We even saw a few tears run into the audience, upset.
A park to unite them all
“It was really beautiful, I didn’t think I was so moved,” said Marianne, who came with her two nieces, at the height of wonder. I am not a big fan of Disney and, honestly, it broke my feet to stay so late after a long day, but I do not regret. It’s a unique show! “Big Disney fans”, there are easily in the crowd. Maria, who came with her two best friends to celebrate her 30th anniversary, is disguised as Elastigirl: “The parades and the shows, it is the soul of Disneyland. I made some attractions with the friends but I was just waiting for that in real life. It’s incredible, we only see that here, the emotional discharge is unique. I tremble … “
If it occurs a little late, the night show is indeed, for many visitors, the highlight of the show of a day in Disneyland. “If you want incredible attractions, there are some in Disneyland. But there are also elsewhere, explains Kevin, a young forty -year -old follower of the park. While the parade and the night show with Disney magic, it is only here. We are thus surprised to cross many fans of the park who ostensibly abandon the attractions to be placed at best at the time of the parades. “There are really, among fans of the park, all kinds of approaches,” explains Dana Harrel. And it is true that some love above all the shows and the parades, while others prefer the attractions of which they always await new products. There are also regular visitors who appreciate above all the atmosphere of the park, the sets, the small details … They scrutinize the shops, the restaurants … Each place and each element of the park has its history and its link with the Disney universe . In Disneyland, even a sandwich will have its history. We really take care of this aspect … “

If these different types of visitors meet all day without necessarily having the same experience. The nocturnal show “Tales of Magic” accomplishes the tour de force to bring them together and satisfy all for a moment of emotion in common. A hell of a magic round.
