This day of rest will allow students to enjoy a long weekend, since the break will last from Friday, January 31 to Monday, February 3, returning to classes on Tuesday, the 4th of the same month. In this way, students will have four consecutive days without academic activities.
Besides, According to the Federal Labor Law (LFT), this day is also considered a mandatory rest for Mexican workers.which gives them a legal right to enjoy this day of rest, with some exceptions.
Do I get paid double if I work on February 3?
According to the LFT, if a worker agrees with his employer to work during a mandatory rest day, such as February 3, he is entitled to receive additional compensation.
Article 75 of the LFT establishes that the employer must pay the worker the salary corresponding to the day worked, as well as an additional salary equivalent to double for the service provided on that holiday..
This means that if a worker works on a mandatory day of rest, he or she will receive both the corresponding salary and an extra payment, in recognition of the day worked on a non-working day. This additional payment is intended to compensate the worker’s effort during the rest days established by law.
On the other hand, If the holiday coincides with the worker’s weekly rest day, as is the case with Sunday in many cases, the employer must also pay an additional premium.. According to the provisions of article 71 of the LFT, this additional payment is 25% of the usual salary for ordinary work days.
In this way, if a worker worked on a holiday that coincides with their weekly rest, they could receive up to three times their daily salary, including the payment of the Sunday bonus.
