The president of the United States, Donald Trumphas ordered the closure of the southern border for undocumented immigrantsqualifying his arrival as part of a “invasion”.
In a statement, the White House presented the proclamation titled “Donald J. Trump protects the states and the American people by closing the border to illegals through a proclamation”which details the signing of an executive order that “suspends the physical entry of aliens involved in an invasion of the United States across the southern border.”

The document also criticizes the previous administration of Joe Bidenaccusing her of not guaranteeing border security and allowing the entry of millions of “illegals” who, according to Trump, have affected American communities. Furthermore, it orders the departments of National Security, Justice and State take immediate action to repel, repatriate and expel undocumented migrants who attempt to cross the border.

As reported by CBS News, which had access to the executive order, it states that “access to the provisions of the immigration laws” is restricted, such as “asylum,” which would allow “any illegal alien involved in an invasion across the southern border of the United States to remain” in the country.
Citing President Trump’s extraordinary move to close the American asylum system, U.S. border agents have been instructed to summarily deport migrants crossing into the country illegally without allowing them to request legal protection, according to internal government documents…

The document concludes by remembering that In 2024 Trump promised to “seal the border on day 1” and who said that “Illegal immigration affects the lives of all Americans. Illegal immigration hurts American workers; burden on American taxpayers; and undermines public safety; and puts enormous strain on local schools, hospitals, and communities at large, taking precious resources away from the poorest Americans who need them most. Illegal immigration costs our country billions and billions of dollars every year… And that is why I will take all legal measures at my disposal to address this crisis. And that’s what we’re doing.”
According to CBS, the administration Trump is relying on the immigration law known as 212(f), which allows presidents to suspend the entry of foreigners whose entry is considered “detrimental” to the United States.
The documents reviewed by the outlet cite the 212(f) authority related to public health that applies to “foreigners who traveled through a country with a communicable disease.”
In practice, it works like when Trump resorted to Title 42in his first administration (2017-2021), to prevent the passage of migrants to the United States, citing, in the midst of the pandemic Covid-19public health reasons.
