Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Last weekend, the TikTok service was blocked in the United States. As a result, TikTok users in that country cannot access the short video platform for the time being.
Interestingly, the moment of blocking turned out to be the time for other social media platforms, especially in the United States, to announce the presence of services similar to TikTok.
One of them is X which announced the presence of a special tab for vertical videos for users in the United States. This new tab is placed at the bottom of the app, indicated by a play button icon.
Quoted from EngadgetTuesday (21/1/2025), this tab will make it easier for users to access content in the X application. Previously, users had to click on a video, then scroll up or down to see a lot of content.
The development of this special tab is said to be X’s attempt to improve the experience of watching videos on its platform. Before this special tab, the company had also previously released its own special TV application.
Not only X, Instagram is also known to have taken advantage of the moment when TikTok was blocked to launch a new feature. Before the blocking was implemented, Instagram revealed that they would increase the duration of videos uploaded to Reels.
According to Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, users can now upload Reels with a duration of up to three minutes, longer than the previous time which was only 90 seconds.
